Submitting PSLF Form – The PSLF form permits you to submit to the Social Security Administration (or the IRS) any payments that you make in order to pay for pensions or other benefits. It’s easy to fill out and could save you time and money. It contains sections like employer information, the payment of which are counted towards PSLF and recertification of the employment.
The payments count towards PSLF
Payments that count toward PSLF could be any kind of payment, such as the federal student loans and repayment plans. To qualify for the program you have to have at least made 120 qualifying payments over the past ten years. Create automatic debit payments to make sure you’re receiving the qualifying payments.
PSLF was previously a requirement to have the proper payments and be on an arrangement for repayment. But, more recently the federal government widened its eligibility criteria to allow late payments beginning in 2007. PSLF’s loan acceptances as well as repayment options have been expanded due to the changes. Jon Toppen, MEA UniServ Director, conducts training for members to aid them in qualifying for PSLF.
If you have received a deferment from the Economic Hardship Deferment, PSLF is also accessible. If you have had these loans prior to January 1, 2013, your payments to PSLF are counted. Before January 1, 2013, only federal student loans through the Federal Family Education Loan Program would be eligible to be considered for PSLF.
PSLF is technically eligible for Direct Parent Plus Loans, provided that the parent works in an eligible occupation. Parents are not eligible for PSLF benefits until the Direct Parent Plus Loan has been converted into the Federal Direct Consolidation Loan.
