PSLF Registration Form – It is used by a PSLF to report any payments you make to the Social Security Administration or the IRS to pay the costs of pensions and other benefits. It’s not hard to fill out and it can save you time and money. The form has several sections. This includes information about the employer, payment information that counts towards PSLF and recertification of the employment.
Payouts that count towards PSLF
PSLF will count any type payment that is made, even those from the federal student loan repayment programs. You must have made at least 120 qualifying payments in the past 10 years in order to qualify to participate in the program. The best way to ensure that you’re making qualifying payments is to establish auto-debit payments.
PSLF had previously demanded that you have the proper payments and be on a repayment plan. But, recently the federal government widened its eligibility criteria to accept late payments beginning in 2007. PSLF now accepts loans of any kind and repayment terms. If you’ve received a deferment from the Economic Hardship Deferment, the PSLF is also accessible. If you were granted these loans before January 1st, 2013, the you will be eligible for PSLF. Prior to January 1st 2013, only federal student loans through the Federal Family Education Loan Program could be considered to be considered for PSLF.
Direct Parent Plus Loans are technically qualified for PSLF as long as the parent is in an employment that is eligible. But, unless the Direct Parent Plus Loan is changed to an Federal Direct Consolidation Loan, the parent is not eligible for PSLF.
Recertification of Employment
The PSLF loan forgiveness program requires you to have recertified your employment. In order for the PSLF loan forgiven program to be considered valid the borrowers have to have worked for a public interest organization, such as an agency of government or non-profit organizations for a minimum of 10 years. Also, they must make a qualifying loan payment in this period. MOHELA reviews the PSLF Form and will notify the borrower about how many qualifying loan repayments they have made.
The PSLF form should be filled out every year , or at the time you change jobs. This ensures that you’re eligible to participate in the program. Also, it will transfer the loan to MOHELA which manages the program. Once you have completed the form and submitted it, you must include any documents to prove that you are still employed.
To get the PSLF employment certificate it is required that you give personal information. It comprises your name, Social Security Number, date of birth , and address. If you want to confirm any changes made the form will ask you to mark a checkbox. After you’ve completed the form, you’ll have to check a legal acknowledgment box to verify that the information is accurate. Then, you need to confirm and date the PSLF employment certification form which is sent to the Department of Education.
You may recertify your employment status using the PSLF form provided you’re employed by an eligible public agency or public sector. Be aware that this form could affect your PSLF payments as well as late partial payments and lump sum payments. It doesn’t matter if you are employed in a public service, private enterprise or other kind of job The PSLF application has to be submitted prior to the date of the deadline to qualify for PSLF.
