If you have taken out these loans prior January 1st, 2013, your payments to PSLF are counted. PSLF was previously available for federal student loans made through the Federal Family Education Loans program.
PSLF the eligibility for PSLF is technically feasible for Direct Parent PLUS Loans as long as the parent holds an employment opportunity that is qualified. Parent can only benefit from PSLF if their Direct Parent Plus Loans are converted to Federal Direct Consolidation Loans.
Recertification of Employment
To be eligible to the PSLF loan forgiveness program, it is important to prove your employment using the PSLF form. The borrower must be employed by a public sector employer for at least 10 years to be eligible to participate in this program. Additionally, they must have made at minimum 120 qualifying loan repayments during this time. MOHELA examines the PSLF Form and informs the borrower how many qualifying loan repayments they have made.
Every year, or when your position changes, you must complete your PSLF Form. This will confirm your eligibility to the program. The loan will be transferred automatically to MOHELA which is the agency that manages the program. After you have completed the form, any documents supporting your claim that prove you are still working must be provided.
The PSLF employment certification form requires you to provide details about yourself, such as your name, Social Security numbers, birth date, address, phone number, email address, and the date of birth. The form also requires you to confirm any modifications to the information by checking a box. Once you have completed the form, you will be asked for legal acknowledgment to verify that the information you provided is correct. It is also necessary to complete and date the PSLF Employment Certificate Form that will be then sent to Department of Education.
If you’re employed in a qualified government agency or public service, the PSLF can allow you to recertify your employment status. This form will impact the amount of your PSLF payment or late partial payment or lump sum payment. For PSLF eligibility, you will be required to fill out the PSLF form before the due date.
