Payouts that count towards PSLF
PSLF will take into account any payment that is made, even those made through federal student loan repayment plans. To be eligible for the program, you must have made at least 120 qualifying payments within the last ten year. The best method to make sure that you’re making qualifying payments is to establish auto-debit payments.
Previously, PSLF required the right kind of repayment and payment plans. But recently the federal government increased the eligibility requirements for the program, accepting late payments beginning in 2007. The new changes also expand the repayment plans and the types of loans PSLF will take. Jon Toppen is Director at MEA UniServ and leads seminars on how to obtain PSLF eligibility.
People who have been granted a deferment through the Economic Hardship Deferment Program can also access the PSLF program. The loans you receive be counted towards PSLF when they were received prior to January 1st January 1, 2013. Prior to 2013, only payments made for federal student loans made through the Federal Family Education Loan program will count towards PSLF.
Direct Parent Plus Loans are technically suitable to be eligible for PSLF provided that the parent is in an employment that is eligible. But in the event that the Direct Parent Plus Loan is changed to the Federal Direct Consolidation Loan, the parent cannot benefit from PSLF.

To be eligible for this program, borrowers must have been employed for a minimum of 10 consecutive years with a public-interest employer like a government agency or non-profit.
