Payouts that count towards PSLF
Any type of payment is eligible for PSLF including federal student loans and repayment plans. You must have received at least 120 qualifying payment in the last ten-years to be qualified to participate in this program. PSLF used to require the right amount and type of repayments. However, the federal government recently extended the eligibility criteria for the program, accepting late payments from 2007 onwards. The PSLF program is also open for those who have received a deferment under the Economic Hardship Deferment Program. Payments from these loans will be considered for PSLF in the event that you received them prior to January 1 2013. Before January 1 2013 only federal student loans through the Federal Family Education Loan Program would be eligible for PSLF.
PSLF is technically suitable for Direct Parent Plus Loans if that the parent works in a job that is eligible. Parent cannot receive PSLF benefits in the event that the Direct Parent Plus Loan has been converted to an Federal Direct Consolidation Loan.
Recertification of employment
The PSLF loan forgiveness program requires you to have renewed your certification of employment. In order to be eligible for the program, applicants must work for a public interest employer, for example, a nonprofit or government agency for at least 10 years. Additionally, they must have made at least 120 loan repayments that qualify for the program during this period. You must complete the PSLF form to recertify your employment. MOHELA will then review it and inform the borrower how many qualifying loan payments they’ve made.
You have to fill out the PSLF form each year, or whenever you change your job. This will allow you to be eligible for the program. It also transfers the loan to MOHELA (the agency that runs it). Once you have completed the application form it is necessary to provide any supporting documents to prove that you’re still employed.
You’ll need to fill in the PSLF employment certification form with your personal information, including your name, address and Social Security number. You are also asked to confirm any modifications to the data by checking an option. After you’ve completed the form, it is necessary to go through the legal acknowledgement box. This confirms that the information is accurate. Finally, you should make sure you sign and date the PSLF Employment certification form. This will be sent the Department of Education.
You can recertify employment status by filling out the PSLF form, provided you work in a qualifying public service or agency. This form will impact your PSLF payment and late partial payments or lump sum payments. No matter if you work in the public sector, private enterprise or other type of employment The PSLF application has to be completed before the deadline in order to be eligible for PSLF.
