PSLF-compliant payments
PSLF payments could include any type of payments. This is in addition to federal student loans and repayment plans. You must have made 120 qualifying payments over the last ten years to be eligible to participate in the program. Previously, PSLF required the right type of payment and repayment plans, but recently the federal government expanded the program’s eligibility criteria, accepting late payments beginning in 2007. For those who have been granted a deferment to the Economic Hardship Deferment, PSLF is also available. If these loans were granted prior to January 1st of 2013, the payments made from them will be counted towards PSLF. PSLF was previously restricted to payments made for federal student loans through the Federal Family Education Loans Program.
PSLF technically qualifies Direct Parent Plus loans as long the parent is employed in an eligible position. Parent can only benefit from PSLF when they are eligible for PSLF if their Direct Parent Plus Loans are converted to Federal Direct Consolidation Loans.
Recertification of Employment
In order to apply for the PSLF loan forgiveness program, it is important to prove your employment with the PSLF form. To be eligible for the program, applicants must have been employed for at least 10 consecutive years with an employer of public interest, such as a government agency or non-profit. They must also make 120 qualified loan payments over this period of time. The submission of the PSLF form to recertify your employment requires you to provide it to MOHELA. MOHELA will review the form and inform you of how many qualifying payments you’ve made.
The PSLF is required to be completed each year. This will confirm your eligibility for the program. The loan will automatically transfer to MOHELA which is the agency that oversees the program. After you’ve completed the form, you must submit any documentation to show that you’re still employed.
You’ll need to fill out the PSLF employment certification form by providing personal information, such as your name, address and Social Security number. It also asks you to confirm any changes to the information you provide by ticking the box. After you have completed the form, you will have to check a box to acknowledge that the information has been correct. Finally, sign and date your PSLF Employment certificate form. The form will be delivered to Department of Education.
If you’re employed in an agency of government that is qualified or public service or public service agency, the PSLF can allow you to recertify your status as an employee. Keep in mind that this form may affect the amount of your PSLF payments, late partial payments, as well as lump sum payment. If you’re employed by a public service or private business, you’ll need to fill out the PSLF form by the deadline to qualify for PSLF.
