PSLF Payments

Prior to January 1 2013, only federal student loans through the Federal Family Education Loan Program would be eligible for PSLF.
PSLF technically qualifies Direct Parent Plus loans as long the parent works in a position that is eligible. Parent can only benefit from PSLF if their Direct Parent Plus Loans are converted into Federal Direct Consolidation Loans.
Recertification of employment
It is crucial to certify that you are employed on the PSLF application form in order to be qualified to participate in the PSLF loan cancellation program. To be eligible for the program, applicants must have been employed for a minimum of 10 consecutive years with an employer of public interest, like a government agency or non-profit. In addition, they must have made at minimum 120 loan repayments that qualify for the program during the time period. You must complete the PSLF form to confirm your employment. MOHELA will then review it and inform the borrower of the amount of qualifying loan payments they’ve made.
Every year, or whenever you make a change in job and you are relocating, when you change jobs, the PSLF form needs to be filled out. This will help you qualify for the program. The form will also transfer the loan to MOHELA (the agency that manages it). After you submit the application, all supporting documents must be submitted to prove that you’re still employed.
In order to complete the PSLF employment certificate form, you will be asked for personal information like your name, Social Security number and date of birth. It also asks you to confirm any modifications to the information by checking an option. After you have completed the form, you’ll be required to verify the accuracy of the information by checking a box. The PSLF Employment Certification Form must be filled out and signed by the applicant. The form will be delivered directly to the Department of Education.
