PSLF was previously restricted to federal student loans under the Federal Family Education Loans Program.
Direct Parent Plus Loans are technically qualified to benefit from PSLF in the event that the parent is in an employment that is eligible. However, unless the Direct Parent Plus Loan is transformed into a Federal Direct Consolidation Loan, the parent will not be eligible for PSLF.
Recertification
The PSLF loan forgiveness program requires that you renewed your certification of employment. Borrowers must be employed by an employer that is in the public sector for at minimum 10 years in order to qualify to participate in this program. They also must make 120 eligible loan payments during this period. MOHELA will review the PSLF Form and will inform the borrower of the number of loan repayments that qualify for a loan they have completed.
The PSLF form has to be completed every year , or at the time you make a change in your job. This will help ensure that you qualify for the program and will automatically transfer your loan to MOHELA which is the agency which manages the program. Once you have completed the form, all supporting documents should be provided to show that you are still employed.
You’ll need to fill in the PSLF employment certification form by providing details about yourself, like your name, address and Social Security number. The form also asks you to tick an option to confirm any changes to the information. After you have completed the form you will be required to check a box to acknowledge that the information has been correct. The PSLF Employment Certification Form must be signed and dated by you. This form will be sent directly to the Department of Education.
If you’re employed in a government agency that meets the requirements or public service or public service agency, the PSLF can allow you to recertify your status as an employee. The form could have an impact on the amount of your PSLF payments. It also affects late partial payments, lump sum as well as PSLF payments. To be eligible to receive PSLF, you must submit the PSLF form before the due date regardless of whether you are employed in the private or public sector.
